Stock Exchange Listing

The main reason for obtaining a listing for an investment fund is to facilitate the marketing of the fund to specific categories of investors. Institutional investors, in particular, will usually require that the fund be listed on a recognised stock exchange in order to comply with their own regulatory requirements. Similarly, marketing in certain jurisdictions can be facilitated through a stock exchange listing. It is important to realise, however, that a listing does not, in itself, mean that the fund is deemed to be a regulated fund nor does it ensure liquidity in the fund.

In fact, the main purpose of a listing is not usually to enhance liquidity in the fund but rather to fulfil technical or regulatory requirements. In the case of an open-ended fund, liquidity is provided by the fund itself, through the redemption facility.
